GENEVA (VOM): Minister for Commerce, Syed Naveed Qamar, Speaking at the Opening Ceremony of the MC12. Minister stressed the need for the WTO to uphold the foundational pillars of the Marrakech Agreement of consensus-based decision making, special and differential treatment for developing countries, and a fully functional Two-tiered dispute settlement mechanism

Minister highlighted the challenges to the organization in the unfulfilled mandates of the past and unilateral action and non-compliance of rules by larger players.

Called for an effective conclusion to the WTO response to the pandemic and solutions for restrictive IP rights in addressing the Covid pandemic and future preparedness

Minister stressed the need for large subsidizers to take the bigger Responsibility for saving fish under the common but differentiated responsibility principle.
