AMC announced Monday morning that a new series will join the Walking Dead Universe. The still-untitled show will be the third in the Dead franchise, exploring a moment in the post-apocalyptic timeline after the events of The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead.

The new series, created by The Walking Dead Universe’s chief creative officer, Scott Gimple, and The Walking Dead writer Matt Negrete, will feature two young female protagonists and focus on the first generation that had to come of age amid the apocalyptic landscape. Think young adult drama meets zombie apocalypse: The teens grow up, make life-altering choices, and figure out where they fall on the scale of good and evil.

“On the heels of an incredible ninth season of The Walking Dead and as we approach an anticipated new season of Fear the Walking Dead on June 2, this is an exciting moment for the Dead franchise, which continues to thrive in a highly competitive environment,” said Sarah Barnett, president of the entertainment networks group for AMC Networks.

The new series will premiere with a 10-episode season on AMC in 2020, which also marks a full decade of The Walking Dead on air.

“Showing audiences an unseen pocket of The Walking Dead Universe steeped in a new mythology is a very cool way to celebrate a ‘Decade of the Dead’ on TV and over fifteen years of Robert Kirkman’s brilliant comic,” said Gimple.
