Senior UK general louds army’s role in Afghan peace process

He acknowledged the army's role especially its efforts in the Afghan peace process


Commander Strategic Command UK General Sir Patrick Nicholas Yardley Monrad Sanders called on Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa at the General Headquarters (GHQ) on Wednesday, where matters pertaining to regional security and professional as well mutual interests were discussed.


“During the meeting, matters of professional & mutual interest and regional security issues were discussed,” read a statement issued by the Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR).


The visiting dignitary acknowledged and appreciated Pakistan Army’s sincere efforts in fight against terrorism and efforts for bringing peace and stability in the region, especially the Afghan peace process, the statement added.


“The Pakistan army greatly values its friendly relations with the United Kingdom,” stated the COAS while wholeheartedly thanking the foreign dignitary.


On March 9, COAS General Bajwa had discussed the Afghan peace process, security and defence cooperation and the evolving global geo-strategic environment of the region with United Kingdom’s Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) General Sir Nicholas Patrick Carter.


According the ISPR, General Carter called on General Bajwa at the GHQ today to discuss matters of mutual interest.


The visiting dignitary acknowledged Pakistan’s continuous efforts for peace and stability in the region and pledged to further enhance bilateral relations between both countries, the ISPR added.


Earlier on March 8, it was reported that US special envoy for Afghanistan shared with Pakistan the new strategy of the Biden administration, seeking national elections under the transitional Afghan government.
