Newly appointed Russian Ambassador Danila V. Ganich hosted a reception which was attended by top civil and military personalities, senior bureaucrats, senior journalists and intellectuals here in the federal capital. Federal Minister for Power Omar Ayub Khan was guest of honour while Muhammad Arsallah Khan Honorary Consul Russian Federation in Peshawar and Honorary Consul General of Russian Federation in Lahore Habib Rafiq were also present. In his message issued on the occasion of Day of Russia Danila Ganich said the Day of Russia was one of the major national holidays of his country. It dates back to June 12, 1990 when the Declaration of State Sovereignty of Russia was proclaimed. Both Russia and Pakistan are bound by strong ties of friendship, cooperation and mutual understanding based on mutual respect and partnership, desire for multi-faceted and equal cooperation. Russia is committed to further promotion of political dialogue with Pakistan, which is in the interests of peace and security of the region. This was first Day of Russia hosted by new Ambassador Danila Ganich who was appointed Russian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan by the Executive Order of the President of Russia № 156 on April 11, 2019. After the disintegration of former Soviet Union, the Federation of Russia went through several phases linked with the adoption of the new Russian Constitution, the national flag, anthem, and emblem of the Russian Federation. June 12th marks the 1990 declaration that signaled the birth of the independent Russian Federation and official dissolution of the Soviet Union on the same day a year later.
