PM directs to make all out efforts for efficient services to the common man
KP local bodies poll showed ‘status quo’ opposing EVM to manipulate: PM
LAHORE: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday directed the Punjab government to take all necessary steps in providing prompt and efficient services to the common man in the province.
Talking to Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar, he also emphasized taking action against miscreants, hoarders, and occupation mafia to protect the lives, property, and interests of the people.
During the meeting, the issues related to civil administration and law and order of Punjab province were discussed, besides a detailed briefing on the progress of development projects.
Chief Secretary Punjab Kamran Ali Afzal and Inspector General Punjab Rao Sardar Ali Khan were present. Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday said manipulation of polls through rejection of votes was one of the reasons the ‘status quo’ mindset opposed the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVM).
“The ability to manipulate elections through getting opposition votes rejected is one of the reasons the status quo opposes EVM,” he said in reference to the recent election of the mayor of Peshawar.
The prime minister mentioned that the local government elections in Khyber Pukhtunkhwa had again shown the problem of rejected votes because of double stamping etc.
He recalled that the same had come out in the Judicial Commission report on the 2013 elections.
He also shared a bar graph depicting the votes rejected were greater than the winning margin. Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday directed expediting the implementation of ongoing health-related projects to ensure provision of best healthcare facilities to the people.
The prime minister expressed these views as Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid called on him along with Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar.
During the meeting, the issues related to construction of new hospitals across Punjab were discussed.
The prime minister was apprised that the Naya Pakistan National Health Card received immense appreciation by the masses.
PM Khan also directed to create awareness among the people about the benefits of health card and its effective use.

The Election Commission of Pakistan has announced to conduct first phase of Local Government polls in Punjab on 29th May of this year.
A decision to this respect was taken at a meeting of the Election Commission which met in Islamabad today with Chief Election Commissioner, Sikandar Sultan Raja in the chair.
In the first phase, LG polls will be held in Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Muzzafar Garh, Layyah, Khanewal, Vehari, Bahawalpur, Sahiwal, Pakpattan, Toba Tek Singh, Khushab, Sialkot, Gujrat, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Jehlum, and Attock.
