Pakistan-Germany Ties


Pakistan and Germany enjoy deep-rooted cordial ties based on mutual respect and common goals. It is in the interest of Pakistan and Germany to maintain and strengthen the relations for mutually beneficial cooperation. Both countries have remained deeply engaged on political, economic, and socio-cultural levels to strengthen this partnership throughout their history of bilateral ties. Pakistan and Germany have been collaborating closely on regional matters and at the multilateral fora. Germany is Pakistan’s largest trading partner in the EU. German exports to Pakistan are worth around 1.8 billion euro and imports from Pakistan 1.1 billion euro. Pakistan’s main exports to Germany are textiles, leather goods, sports goods, footwear, and medical instruments, and its main imports from Germany are machinery, chemical and electrical goods, motor vehicles, and iron goods. The long-established, effective academic and scientific exchange plays an important part in cultural relations between Germany and Pakistan. The emergence of Germany in the 21st century as one of the most developed economies in the world is a testimony to the strength of German culture and the resilience of its people. To further strengthen bilateral political, cultural, economic, and trade ties between Pakistan and Germany, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi is on his two-day official visit to Germany. According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, Qureshi was undertaking an official visit to the country on the invitation of German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas. At a dinner hosted in FM Qureshi’s honor at the Pakistan House in Berlin, Mr. Qureshi has said that the government of Pakistan is inviting the world’s attention towards investment opportunities in Pakistan through economic diplomacy. Keeping economic diplomacy in focus, Pakistan is strengthening its relations with the regional and extra-regional states, and Mr. Qureshi’s visit to Germany is a practical manifestation in this regard.
