Pak focuses regional peace, stability: FM Qureshi

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Wednesday said that Pakistan is focusing on maintaining regional peace and stability. Addressing the Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers’ meeting here he pointed out that Pakistan has been hosting millions of Afghan refugees over the years.
Underscoring Pakistan’s unprecedented successes in the war on terrorism, Qureshi mentioned the country’s National Action Plan to combat terrorism and extremism. Foreign minister said concrete steps have been taken to check money laundering and terror financing. He also mentioned that Pakistan is determined to achieve sustainable development goals and stressed that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor will assist in the development.
Speaking about poverty elevation, Qureshi said Pakistan has initiated an Ehsaas Progamme and Sehat Sahulat Programme which aims to protect the vulnerable citizens of the country. He also briefed the Commonwealth meeting about the steps taken by Pakistan for protection of rights of women and minorities. Qureshi is on a two-day official visit to Britain to attend the Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers meeting. He was received by Pakistan High Commissioner to UK Nafees Zakaria and other high officials at the Heathrow Airport in London. Talking to journalists, FM Qureshi said that Pakistan Post will issue the commemorative stamps on the completion of 70 years of the Commonwealth. The foreign minister said that the stamps were designed keeping in the view the three aspects of the basic agenda of the Commonwealth. He said that Pakistan’s culture, historical heritage and economy were portrayed on the commemorative stamps.
Earlier in the day, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi had said that Pakistan will welcome Commonwealth’s partnership in the special economic zones to be established under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor. Addressing the Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers’ meeting in London on Wednesday, he had pointed out that Pakistan was focusing its attention to regional peace and stability.
Qureshi had said, Pakistan has registered unprecedented successes in the war on terrorism. We have a National Action Plan to defeat terrorism and extremism. He had said the tribal districts had been brought into the national mainstream by merging them with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It was the first time that the tribal districts were being given representation in the provincial assembly.
