England have down Bangladesh by eight wickets in Group 1 encounter of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Jason Roy starred in the chase after bowlers executed a resounding performance and restricted Bangladesh to 124/9. England are now sitting at the top of their group with four points.
Earlier, the decision to bat first by the Bangladesh skipper Mahmudullah didn’t go in his side’s favour as they lost three wickets inside the powerplay.
Moeen Ali removed openers in back-to-back deliveries while Adil Rashid grabbed a stunner at fine-leg to remove Shakib Al Hasan (4).
Senior batters Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah recovered for 37-run stand after the powerplay but Liam Livingstone with his spin variations dismissed both the batters in his three-over spell. Mushfiqur scored 29 while Mahmudullah made 19.
Tymal Mills troubled the lower-order with his pace and dismissed Nurul Hasan and Nasum Ahmed, who made little contributions of 16 and 19 respectively.
Mills finished with figures of 3/27 while Moeen and Livingstone bagged two each.
In return, opener Jason Roy dominated while Jos Buttler (18) and David Malan (28*) anchored around him. Roy, in his 38-ball 61, smacked three sixes and five fours. England chased down the target of 125 for the loss of two wickets in the 15th over.
Nasum Ahmed bagged Buttler in the fifth over while Shoriful Islam dismissed Roy in the 13th over.
