Innovative way to curb corruption

Corruption is a serious crime that can undermine social and economic development in all societies and no country, region or community is immune to it. Every year $1 trillion is paid in bribes while an estimated $2.6 trillion are stolen annually through corruption a sum equivalent to more than 5 per cent of the global GDP. According to the United Nations Development Programme, funds lost to corruption are estimated at 10 times the amount of official development assistance in developing countries. To curb this menace, international anti-corruption day was observed on Monday. In his message on the day UN Secretary-General, António Guterres urged people everywhere to continue to work on innovative solutions to win the battle against corruption and to ensure that precious resources serve the peoples of the world. Under the same spirit, Prime Minister Imran Khan launched App on the day to end this curse from the society. The “Report Corruption” mobile application has been introduced by the Anti-Corruption Establishment of Punjab. The mobile application can be used to report corruption cases falling in the jurisdiction of Punjab with the facility of uploading complaints, evidence in the form of videos, images and documents. After coming in power, Prime Minister’s Citizen Portal App was launched by the present government that has received enormous response and due to this the issues of the masses, that remained unresolved for years, have been resolved. It is hoped that the anti-corruption App will also receive massive response and will help in ending corruption in the society. Similar Apps should also be developed by all the provinces and it will be better to have a single App at the center to oversights the federal as well as provincial departments. The prime minister urged the chief minister to highlight the achievements of the Punjab government to make people know the benefit of the anti-corruption drive launched by the provincial government. All the campaigns of the government should be highlighted in the media and at other forums depicting the punishment for the wrong doers and awards and prizes for those doing good deeds. The whole nation will have to take part in the government’s ongoing efforts against corruption by exposing corrupt elements in society.
