Another disgusting mob lynching incident has left our heads hanging in shame. In Khanewal, the mob beat a mentally ill man, before stoning him to death after tying him to a tree. The incident took place hardly 10 weeks after the lynching of a Sri Lankan national in Sialkot. A similar incident was reported from Faisalabad during the day. However, police managed to save the life of the suspect held by an unruly mob. If one goes deep down into the details of the ghastly incident of Khanewal, it can be observed that even police personnel were unable to rescue him after arrest from the aggressive mob. this issue is indicating the incapacity of the institutes and poor education. The poor man has been saved from the violent mob If the authorities had shown their professional guts. But unfortunately, there wasn’t showed any courage by the police personnel, and even a single Adnan Malik in Khanewal, the hero who tried to save Sri Lankan national Priyantha Kumara in Sialkot. Prime Minister Imran Khan tweeted about the incident and said: “We have zero tolerance for anyone taking the law into their own hands & mob lynching will be dealt with the full severity of the law. Have asked Punjab IG for a report on action taken against perpetrators of the lynching in Mian Channu & against the police who failed in their duty.” What is the point to take to the response after every such incident that zero-tolerance will be exhibited, and the culprits punished, if the incidents like this are happening every day, and went untrailed without serving justice to the victim? There must be some deterrence of the authorities to such acts and ensured ‘rule of law’ in this state. Now it’s high time for the government to undertake an exercise in humility to educate the people that no one can assume the role of being judge, jury, and executioner. It is un-Islamic in essence and devoid of humanity.
