Indian ‘Barbarism’ against Muslims

Pakistan strongly condemned the recent despicable attempt to hoist the saffron flag at Jahangirpuri’s Jamia Masjid in New Delhi where Muslims were waiting to break their fasts, revealed the gravity of the state-sanctioned hysteria and hatred in India against Muslims. The Hindu mobs indulged in derogatory sloganeering, playing of provocative music and the brandishing of weapons by the procession of Hanuman Shobha Yatra with impunity. This incident has rekindled the horrific memories of the Ram Navami riots, which spread out across many Indian states had shone a spotlight on the precipitous slide of India into a ‘Hindu Rashtra’. One cannot ignore it as this is not the first, and it will not be the last to hear of inciting violence against Muslims in India. Indeed, in recent years there have been a number of incidents that should have been alarmed, and they should have been monitored and evaluated in light of the serious risks of genocide and other serious crimes. These incidents include systematic government discrimination of a minority of Muslims in India, incidents of Hindu mobs attacking Muslims with numerous attacks such as non-punishment for other crimes against young Muslims, and the widespread promotion of marginalized views exposing minority Muslims as others. It is noteworthy that similarly some religious minorities face a wave of persecution in India, including minority Christian believers. Among other things, in January 2022, a mob of 200 Hindus attacked a house church during its service, injuring the pastor. As the Open Doors continue, “Hindu extremists believe that all Indians should be Hindus and that the country should abolish Christianity and Islam. They use great violence to achieve this goal. All such attacks on minority religions should be investigated and condemned. However, calls “ready to kill 2 million (Muslims)” require further response measures, including a comprehensive risk assessment of genocide and comprehensive risk reduction measures. If we do not take the risk of genocide, we will see corpses on the road again. This is a warning that cannot be ignored.
