UNSC emergency meeting success of PTI govt: Qureshi


Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Thursday said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the biggest obstacle to Pakistan-India talks. Speaking to news channel Qureshi said, “Modi put Kashmir at stake to win the election. In February, he stoked the flames of tension to win the election.”
When asked about the UNSC’s decision to address the Kashmir issue in its session on Friday, Qureshi said, “It is landmark diplomatic achievement for Pakistan that the UNSC will address the Kashmir issue after five decades. India is in a state of unease and is opposing the meeting of the UNSC on the Kashmir issue.”
“Russia is aware of our stance. I presented Pakistan’s stance on the Kashmir issue in detail during my phone call with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. Hopefully, Russia will back our point of view at the Security Council,” Qureshi added.
Our work is to present our point-of-view with sincerity at the Security Council, he asserted. He further urged the leadership of the Organisation of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to play its part, “Millions of people are looking at the OIC. I also urge the human rights organisations to take a look at the human rights violations taking place in Kashmir.”
The foreign minister added India is perpetrating genocide of Kashmiris in a plan to change the demographic composition of the population in Kashmir. He added, “We have never given precedence to war. If someone wages a war on us, then we have the right to defend ourselves.” The entire nation is standing shoulder to shoulder with the armed forces, Qureshi added.
Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi says United Nations Security Council will have to play its due role to stop Modi from genocide of innocent Kashmiri people in the held valley.
Addressing a rally in Lahore today, he said India has put the peace of entire region at stake.
He said New Delhi has turned Occupied Kashmir into prison as the people of Kashmir are facing severe shortage of essential commodities due to curfew.
The Foreign Minister said that the people of Kashmir have pinned hopes on session of the Security Council. He urged the nation and all political parties to remain united for the Kashmir cause. He said the Kashmiri people and Pakistani nation reject the conspiracy of Modi to change the status of Kashmir dispute.
He said Pakistan will stand by the Kashmiri brethren till last breath and highlight the Kashmir issue on every front. Another success on the diplomatic front for Pakistan as Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi affirmed that Russia is willing to play a role of mediator over the Kashmir dispute.
Moscow is fully aware of the situation in occupied Kashmir, therefore, it decided not to object the holding of a meeting on Kashmir issue at the United Nations Security Council, said the minister on Thursday.
Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Thursday said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government had been successful in raising the Kashmir issue again at United Nations Security Council (UNSC) after 50 years.
Addressing a rally led by Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar and Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar to express solidarity with Kashmiris, he hoped that UNSC members would ponder over the Kashmir issue on Friday ( August 16) as the situation had become unusual in Indian occupied Kashmir.
He said the Pakistani nation had rejected all the steps taken by Modi government in held-Kashmir and it stood with Kashmiri brothers in this difficult situation. Qureshi said the Indian government had transformed occupied Kashmir into jail and put the peace of the whole region at stake.
FM Qureshi said that Kashmir issue has been highlighted on the international level and it is no more the internal matter of India as claimed by them. He said that Russian foreign minister had offered to mediate the Kashmir issue between Pakistan and India, adding that India had earlier also rejected the offer of US president, now it’s upon Russia to think that who is going to oppose their mediation offer. According to diplomatic sources, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) will hold an emergency session in New York on Friday (tomorrow) to discuss Jammu and Kashmir dispute.
