Hashim Amla shares how fasting in Ramadan helps him in Cricket

South African batsman Hashim Amla credits the holy month of Ramadan for improving his physical and mental approach ahead of ICC cricket World Cup 2019.

The 36-year-old batsman after the warm-up game against West Indies in Bristol on Sunday said, “It (fasting) really helps with my conditioning,” he said.

“Fasting is something I always look forward to. It’s the best month of the year for me. Physically yes, you do feel thirsty and hungry. I see it as a great mental exercise. But most importantly, it is a great spiritual exercise as well, he added.

In 2012, during Ramadan, Amla became South Africa’s highest individual Test run-scorer with his 311 not out at The Oval. He has 7,910 runs in 174 ODIs at an average of 49.74 with 27 centuries till date.

The right-handed batsman will play two matches during this Ramadan against England and Bangladesh. —VOM
