ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan Tuesday underlined that exports and tax collection were the two main driving forces to boost the country’s economy, over which the government was fully focused.

He said the government was making strenuous efforts to remove all hurdles and bottlenecks faced by exporters, investors and businessmen and to give a spur to the exports industry.

The prime minister was addressing at an inaugural ceremony of 14th International Chambers Summit 2022 arranged by the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI).

The prime minister said that in the past, no attention was paid to these sectors of the economy which were vital for wealth creation.

He said the exports sector was stagnant in the past, but the incumbent government was providing all facilitation to the exporters and stressed that exporters should be encouraged with awards and other incentives.

He observed that if the country’s exports were not increased, it could again put pressure on the current account and currency.

The summit was being attended by presidents of more than 54 regular chambers, 10 small chambers and 13 women chambers. Representatives from the development partners, international business community, political parties, ministries and the government institutions.

The summit will provide an opportunity to the businessmen to seek resolution of their issues besides, presentation of solid proposals to the stakeholders for the formulation of the business-friendly policy of the country. Country’s economy moving toward prosperity: PM

Prime Minister Imran Khan says economy of the country is now stable and moving toward prosperity due to prudent economic policies of the government.

Addressing the inaugural session of 14th International Chambers Summit in Islamabad on Tuesday, he said making Pakistan a great country is our mission.

Imran Khan said the government has adopted effective and strong strategy to make economy stable and meet global pandemic at a time. He said Pakistan has dealt COVID19 with integrated policy protecting economy and human lives.

The Prime Minister said inflation has hit entire world hard and government is trying to protect our citizens from adverse effect of this menace.

He said exports, foreign remittances and tax collection are increasing significantly as these areas are on the top priority of the government.

Imran Khan said government has received 32 billion dollars foreign remittances and 31 billion dollars have been witnessed in export sector. He said the Federal Board of Revenue has made tax collection of 6000 billion rupees during current fiscal year.

Imran Khan said IT exports are at 3.5 billion rupees with increase of 70 percent while agriculture has received income of 1100 billion rupees.

He said due to an integrated strategy of the government, construction sector is also witnessing record development.

The Prime Minister said tax culture in the country should be promoted to increase tax revenue.

He said the government has also introduced health insurance for every family in country up to one million rupees.

Imran Khan said promotion of business activities and creating decent business opportunities in the country is our priority and the government will provide all possible facilities to establish industrial zones in the country.

Emphasizing the need to eliminate corruption from the country, he said a corruption free Pakistan is our mission and we will continue fight against corrupt elements and practices.

The Prime Minister said due effective strategy of government, the corporate sector has witnessed a profit of 930 billion rupees while 1138 billion rupees investments have been made in private sector during last 10 years. The federal cabinet has approved to proceed against Shahbaz Sharif in the Lahore High Court for submitting false affidavit in fraudulently escaping Nawaz Sharif abroad.

Briefing media in Islamabad this afternoon, about the decisions taken by the Federal Cabinet, which met in the federal capital with Prime Minister Imran Khan in the chair today (Tuesday), Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said Nawaz Sharif’s proceeding abroad on the pretext of medical reasons was an utter fraud. He said Nawaz Sharif has been living in London for 17 months, but he has not taken any treatment. He said the Punjab Government has rejected all the medical reports submitted by the Sharif family. He said Pakistan’s embassy in London also contacted the Sharif family twice, but it did not cooperate.

Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said Shahbaz Sharif had submitted an affidavit guaranteeing return of his elder brother, who neither got any treatment nor returned to Pakistan. He said Shahbaz Sharif was fully involved in Nawaz Sharif’s escape from the country. He said the government will pray the court that Shahbaz Sharif should be disqualified for submitting a false affidavit or he should be bound to bring back his brother as per promise.

Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said the cabinet was also briefed about Covid situation in the country. He said it has been decided that no lockdown will be imposed in the country as Pakistan’s economy cannot afford this. He, however, appealed the people to observe precautionary measures, especially wearing of face masks at public places, to prevent spread of the virus. He said the government will keep monitoring the situation.

Regarding Electronic Voting Machines, the Minister said the Ministry of Science and Technology has been directed to provide EVMs to the Election Commission of Pakistan to hold next elections in Islamabad through these machines to ensure transparency.

Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said the cabinet also approved launching of a Housing Project on 400 kanals for overseas Pakistanis. He said overseas Pakistanis can procure apartments in this project through Roshan Digital Accounts. He said the government will fetch around two billion dollars through this project. He said the cabinet also directed to frame a policy to enable foreigners to procure land in Pakistan.

The Minister said the Federal Cabinet approved electricity tariff adjustment of one rupee per unit for next three months to provide relief to the people. Besides, Science, Technology, and Innovation policy, Sambarial-Kharian Motorway, import of urea from China, and privatization of Guddu and Nandipur power plants were approved.

Referring to the tragic incidents of Murree, the Minister said the Prime Minister expressed deep grief and sorrow over the deaths of tourists there. He said the people died of carbon monoxide in their vehicles.

The Minister said the PTI government is the first government that gave due importance to tourism sector. He said thirteen new tourist resorts have been established. He said the structure of the tourism sector is being improved to ensure proper facilities to tourists.
