Gaddafi Stadium’s Count Down Clock catches immense attention
ISLAMABAD/LAHORE: Defending champions Quetta Gladiators will contest against two-time champions Islamabad United in the opener of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2020 on February 20 at National Stadium Karachi (NSK). In a schedule released by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) 50 days prior to the fifth edition of the league, Karachi will host nine matches including the mesmerizing opening ceremony on February 20, Lahore will conduct highest 14 matches while Rawalpindi and Multan, on their debut, will host eight and three matches respectively.
A total of 36 matches will be staged entirely in the country as the PCB fulfilled its promise to bring the league back to where it belongs. It must be noted here that the reigning champions Quetta Gladiators will play three matches in Lahore, four in Karachi, one in Multan and two in Rawalpindi; while Peshawar Zalmi, the 2017 winners and the 2019 losing finalists, will be in action in one match each in Lahore and Multan, three in Karachi and five in Rawalpindi.
Islamabad United will play three matches in Lahore, two in Karachi and five in Rawalpindi; Karachi Kings will play two matches in Lahore, five in Karachi, one in Multan and two in Rawalpindi; Multan Sultans will play five matches in Lahore, one in Karachi, three in Multan and one in Rawalpindi; and Lahore Qalandars will play eight matches in Lahore and one each in Karachi and Rawalpindi.
The PCB chairman Ehsan Mani is privileged to fulfill their promise to stage the entire league in the country. After bringing Test cricket back to Pakistan, hosting of the entire edition of the league is our other major achievement. I never had any doubts it was Pakistan’s league and should be played in front of home crowds. We had made this commitment to the people of Pakistan at the end of last year’s event and I am pleased today we have announced the event schedule with four centers to share the 34 event matches between them, he said.
It is pertinent to mention here that as many as 36 foreign stars will be seen in action in this year’s PSL. A total of 425 overseas players from 22 countries registered for the draft. Players include 39 from Afghanistan, 12 from Australia, 23 from Bangladesh, 10 from Canada, 109 from England, seven from Hong Kong, six from Ireland, seven from the Netherlands, eight from Nepal, 11 from New Zealand, nine from Oman, five from Scotland, four from Singapore, 27 from South Africa, 39 from Sri Lanka, nine from the UAE, six from the USA, 82 from the West Indies, nine from Zimbabwe and one each from Bermuda, Kenya, and Namibia.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has placed a ‘Count Down Clock’ at Gaddafi Stadium Lahore as the biggest cricketing event, the Pakistan Super League (PSL), is just 50 days away. One of the prominent T20 cricket leagues around the world, PSL is penciled in from February 20 to March 22 in Pakistan’s four cities including Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Multan.
The PCB has announced the complete schedule of this year’s league. The opening ceremony of the event is scheduled at National Stadium Karachi (NSK) on February 20 while Lahore will stage the closing ceremony and final. Defending champions Quetta Gladiators and two-time champions Islamabad United will play the opening match of the extravaganza.
