ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has approved Punjab government’s recommendations for getting rid of smog, particularly from Lahore and its adjoining areas. The recommendations, forwarded by Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar, including, conversion of 250 public transport buses into hybrid or electric technology in Lahore.
Importantly, from now onwards, new public transport buses will run through hybrid, CNG, or electric technology with a strict prohibition on usage of petrol and diesel for public transportation. For curbing environmental pollution, forest plantation will be done on 60,000 canals of land in Lahore. Steel Rolling Industries, and brick kilns will be converted to zigzag technology by the deadline of December, 2020.
Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday issued directives for putting to good use unutilised properties of government departments and institutions for the welfare of the people. Chairing a meeting here, he said income earned from these unused properties will be spent on the welfare of the masses and improvement of basic facilities such as schools, colleges and hospitals.
Prime Minister Khan pointed out that different departments of the federal government are facing losses of billions of rupees annually despite owning such assets. He slammed past rulers over their alleged criminal negligence by not using state-owned properties for public welfare. He cautioned that strict action will be taken against those officials who will not identify such properties or create hurdles in their proper utilisation.
At a high-level meeting held to get a briefing on utilising Punjab’s government land for public welfare projects last month, the prime minister was apprised that Punjab Cooperative Board For Liquidation (PCBL) owned 293 properties as 98 properties including agriculture, commercial and residential sites are available for auction. He directed PBCL and law ministers to take all the necessary steps put these properties to good use.
Moreover, Prime Minister Imran Khan will distribute cheques amongst the successful applicants for Youth Entrepreneurship Scheme under the Prime Minister’s Kamyab Jawan Programme (PMKJP) on Friday December 6. According to an official, cheque distribution to successful applicants will be launched by Prime Minister on coming Friday.
The official said that Kamyab Jawan Programme had received one million applications by the youth across the country and was receiving 80,000 to 100,000 applications on daily basis which showed youth’s interest and accomplishment of the programme.
