Army Chief takes top commanders into confidence over govt’s economic measures
Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Wednesday said that Pakistan was on positive trajectory of peace and development and shall carry forward the same towards enduring peace and prosperity, Inter Service Public Relation (ISPR) reported.
While presiding over the 22nd Corps Commanders’ Conference at General Headquarters in here on Wednesday. Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa has taken the top military officials into confidence over ‘tough’ measures taken by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government for improving and strengthening the country’s crippled economy.
The army chief, while presiding over the 22nd Corps Commanders’ Conference at the General Headquarters here on Wednesday, briefed the forum about difficult but extremely essential long-term beneficial measures taken by the government of Prime Minister Imran Khan to shore up the economy.
Pakistan is on a positive trajectory of peace and development and shall carry forward the same towards enduring peace and prosperity, Gen Qamar was quoted by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) as saying. Geo-strategic, regional and National Security environment including India, Afghanistan, Iran, ongoing internal security operations and actions against proscribed organisations were also discussed [at the moot], it added.
The statement comes weeks after the government included the army chief in the National Development Council (NDC), formed to accelerate economic growth and improve coordination among the provinces and the federation. The newly-formed body will set policies and chalk out strategies for development and also provide guidelines for improving regional cooperation, according to an official statement.
The chief ministers will also be invited to the council’s meetings, it added. Last week, while addressing participants of a national seminar titled ‘Pakistan’s Economy: Challenges and Way Forward’, Gen Qamar had stated that there cannot be any sovereignty in the absence of economic autonomy.
Meanwhile,. as many as five soldiers of Pakistan Army were martyred and one injured in an explosion near the restive line of control (LoC) on Wednesday, said Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR). According to the military’s media wing, the incident occurred in Jhamb Sector along the Loc. The incident is evident of state sponsored terrorism by India violating bilateral ceasefire agreement and the international rules, read the statement. The spokesperson said that nature of the blast was being ascertained.
The martyred soldiers include Subedar Muhammad Sadiq, Sepoy Muhammad Tayyab, Sepoy Sher Zaman, Sepoy Zohaib, and Sepoy Ghulam Qasim. Earlier on June 7, Four military officers and a soldier had been martyred in an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion took place in North Waziristan on Friday, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said. The incident had occurred in Kharqamar area where terrorists had targeted a patrolling vehicle through an IED planted on the roadside that martyred four Army personnel and wounded four security officials.
The martyrs include Lieutenant Colonel Raashid Karim Baig from Hunza, Major Moeez Maqsood Baig from Karachi, Captain Arifullah from Lakki Marwat and Lance Hawaldar Zaheer from Chakwal.
