COAS, Commander Bahrain Nation Guard discuss Afghan peace process, cooperation prospects

RAWALPINDI, General Qamar Javed Bajwa, General of the Army Staff (COAS), held one-on-one meetings with Field Chief Mohammed Bin Isa Al Khalifa, Commander of the Bahrain National Guard, and the National Security Adviser of Bahrain, Major General Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad. Al Khalifa, during his visit to Bahrain. During the meetings, issues of mutual interest and regional security were discussed.

The COAS offers Pakistan’s full support in achieving shared interests in bilateral security cooperation, including training and capacity building, a press release from Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) received here on Wednesday.

Later, the delegation level talks were also held, where the current developments in the Afghan peace process, border security and the necessary steps to facilitate an Afghan-led and Afghan peace process were discussed.

Earlier FO stated that, Pakistan has consistently supported the Afghan Peace Process. Pakistan’s positive contribution facilitated the US-Taliban Peace Agreement and the subsequent Intra-Afghan Negotiations. He said Islamabad has continued to emphasize that there is no military solution to the Afghan conflict and the only way forward is through a political process. The spokesperson said it is important for Afghan parties to continue negotiations and pursue an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process. He said all sides must work together for an inclusive, broad-based and comprehensive political settlement. He said Pakistan welcomes the US efforts to re-energize the peace process and expedite the final political settlement
