COAS calls for global convergence on Afghanistan for avoiding a humanitarian crisis: ISPR

COAS emphasized that for regional peace and stability there is a need for global convergence on Afghanistan with coordinated efforts for economic uplift of the Afghan people

Rawalpindi: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Wednesday reiterated the need for global convergence on Afghanistan for avoiding humanitarian crisis and coordinated efforts for economic uplift of the Afghan people.

He made these remarks during a call on paid by Director to Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran for Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and UK’s Special Representative on Afghanistan & Pakistan (SRAP) Nigel Casey to Army Chief here at General Headquarters (GHQ), said an ISPR media release.

During the meeting, matters of mutual interest, regional security situation including the recent developments in Afghanistan were discussed.

COAS said that Pakistan valued UK’s role in global and regional affairs, adding,” we look forward to enhance our bilateral relationship”.

He re-emphasized that “Peace in Afghanistan means peace in Pakistan”.

The visiting dignitary appreciated Pakistan’s role in the Afghan situation, special efforts for border management, role in regional stability and pledged to play his part for further improvement in diplomatic cooperation with Pakistan at all levels.

Earlier, Major General Abdullah Bin Hassan Al Sulaiti, Commander Qatar Emiri Naval Force called on General Qamar Javed Bajwa. Chief of Army Staff (COAS) at GHQ.

During the meeting matters of mutual & professional interest and regional security situation were discussed. COAS said that Pakistan values its brotherly relations with Qatar and Pakistan Army also looks forward for enhanced defence and security cooperation with Qatar Armed Forces. COAS emphasized that for regional peace and stability there is a need for global convergence on Afghanistan with coordinated efforts for economic uplift of the Afghan people

The visiting dignitary acknowledged the professionalism of Pakistan Armed Forces and vowed to enhance cooperation in various fields. He also appreciated Pakistan’s role in Afghan situation, special efforts for border management and role in regional stability.

ISPR also reported that a group of externally sponsored terrorists opened fired onto a check post of security forces established in general area Tump, Balochistan to prevent move of these terrorists into built up areas. Security forces responded with all available weapons, in which terrorists suffered heavy losses. During the engagement, however, 2 x soldiers, Sepoy Naseeb Ullah resident of Kharan and Sepoy Insha Allah resident of Lakki Marwat sacrificed their lives fighting valiantly. It is reminded that Pakistan’s Security Forces remain determined to defeat acts of cowardly terrorists, aimed at disrupting peace, stability and Progress of Balochistan.
