Bali gears up for annual int’l triathlon

At least 2,250 participants from 29 countries and regions are set to take part in the 2019 Bali International Triathlon on November 10, organizers said here on Tuesday. Some 80 percent of those registered for this year’s event are domestic participants, a significant increase from 64 percent last year, according to Andam Dewi, general manager of the event’s main sponsor.
The increasing number of Indonesian participants indicates the growing popularity of the triathlon here. The event is expected to further enhance Indonesia’s positive image as a global sports tourism destination, Andam added.
The event this year will be held on Bali’s Sanur Mertasari Beach, with the competition set to include an Olympic distance course, a shorter sprint course and a fun run. First held in 2007, the annual Bali International Triathlon has won numerous accolades, including Best Asia Triathlon Course 2018 from AsiaTri Magazine and Best Triathlon 2018 from Sportactiva, Indonesia’s largest triathlon community.
